Minor Prophets, Major Revelation

This week I’ll be attending a 6 day conference on the Minor Prophets. It will be a busy schedule with 4 hours of messages and 3 hours of study every day. Plus there are a lot of people I will need to catch up with in-between the schedule.

I’ve read the Minor Prophets before (more than once) but have never seriously studied them. Certainly these 12 books are among the most underrated portions of Scripture. Obadiah anyone? Nevertheless, they are just as much God’s word as Colossians or Ephesians and they were inspired, recorded, and preserved until today for a reason. Needless to say, I can’t wait to see what will be shared. I’ll be tweeting updates and highlights all week, so check out #MinorProph for the live stream.

Talking to a few guys who will be there, a catchy phrase has been making the rounds—minor prophets, major revelation.

To demonstrate that, here is a quick survey of what’s so major about these minor prophets.

The Major Revelation in the Minor Prophets

Christ’s Eternal Preexistence

…His goings forth are from ancient times, from the days of eternity. –Micah 5:2c

Christ’s Incarnation

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, so little to be among the thousands of Judah, from you there will come forth to Me He who is to be Ruler in Israel… –Micah 5:2a

Christ’s Death, Burial, and Resurrection

And Jehovah prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah up, and Jonah was in the stomach of the fish for three days and three nights. –Jonah 1:17

And Jehovah spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out onto the dry land. –Jonah 2:10

Christ’s Outpouring of the Spirit

And afterward I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy; your old men shall dream dreams; your young men shall see visions. Indeed even upon the male and female slaves in those days I will pour out My Spirit. –Joel 2:28-29

Christ’s Second Coming as the Desire of the Nations and the Sun of Righteousness

And I will shake all the nations, and the Desire of all the nations will come; and I will fill this house with glory, says Jehovah of hosts. –Haggai 2:7

But unto you who fear My name will the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings, and you will go forth and leap about like well-fed calves. –Malachi 4:2

Christ’s Second Coming with the Overcomers to Armageddon to Defeat Antichrist and his Armies

Hurry and come, all you surrounding nations, and be gathered. There cause Your mighty ones to descend, O Jehovah! –Joel 3:11

Christ’s Eternal Reigning in Zion

And Jehovah will reign over them in Mount Zion from then on, and even forever. –Micah 4:7

  1. I’m looking forward to these messages also! I am almost done with the life-study of the Minor Prophets, and my apetite has been wetted to see something of what God desires to do in the last days! He is chastising Israel, He is punishing the nations (because they were too wild when dealing with Israel), He is bringing in the manifestation of Christ which issues in restoration, and the restoration issues in the New Jerusalem in the new heaven and the new earth! Wow!

I’ll be following the MinorProph 🙂 and then I’ll listen to some messages later… 🙂

    • Awesome! Glad to hear it. Off to a great start here. Messages one and two put the Minor Prophets solidly in the context of the divine romance in an unbelievable way- typified by Hosea and Gomer. The live stream has so many great gems, so be sure to check it out! #MinorProph

  2. I’m very much enjoying those same Minor Prophets messages via webcast up in the far Northwest. I’m majorly impressed w/ God’s awesome, unchanging, Fatherly, Godly love for us, as well as His rich mercy, and all sufficient grace. Praise Him.

    • Agreed. Hosea and Jonah have become new books to me. Hosea is a type of God as a betrayed but unrelenting lover. Because His love encapsulates His divine life, He can transform us from a harlot to the spotless bride of Christ. I had never understood Jonah ch 4 either. Jonah 4:11 could breathe new life into missional groups.
