Blogging about what Really Matters

I have been talking to people recently about blogging about the Bible and my experience of Christ. I have been thinking about this the last few months or so. The popular realization of the non-Christians in the early days of the church was that “these men have upset the world (Acts 17:6).” Shouldn’t this be more true today? The advent of the internet gives the Lord’s charge in Acts 1:8 a whole new dimension. We can reach the “uttermost part of the earth” every morning on our smartphone while we wait for our caramel macchiato to be made at Starbucks. This isn’t to spur on mindless posts when we have nothing better to do, but sometimes I wonder if the apostle Paul would have a blog if he were alive today. Here is an opportunity for the life-changing truths that we know to be shared by regular people like me and you. Twitter and Facebook have proven that one tweet or video post does more than alter your ego. It can topple an entrenched regime. It seems that upsetting the world is easier than ever now. This is not to say I feel that blogging about other things is useless. I recognize that we all have pursuits that interest and benefit us. If you read my title (I’ve renamed my blog since; formerly, it was Life and Building) you probably are also expecting posts on life and architecture. Stay posted. I am just stirring the pot and trying to find a response.

Four reasons to blog about what really matters:

1) We can’t help but speak about Jesus, whether online or in person

“For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” –Acts 4:20

“My heart overflows with a good matter; I speak what I have composed concerning the King. My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.” –Psalm 45:1

2) We owe the gospel to people

“I am debtor… to wise and to foolish; so, for my part, I am ready to announce the gospel to you… for  I am not ashamed…” –Romans 1:14-16

3) To play a part in Romans 10:18

“Their voice has gone out into all the earth and their words to the ends of the inhabited earth.”

4) To dig out our talent

“But he who had received the one went off and dug in the earth and hid his master’s money… you should have deposited my money… and when I came, I would have recovered what is mine with interest.” –Matthew 25:18, 27
